Introduction

Goran Arsenić’s inspiring journey into the world of programming and career growth as a developer highlights the rewards of persistence and passion. Though his initial steps into programming began in high school, it was only after college that he truly discovered his calling. Now, with over 7 years of experience—most of which he has spent at Walter Code—Goran shares his insights on professional growth, navigating high-pressure situations, and the unique work culture at Walter Code.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your programming background?

My first touches with programming were in high school, but it wasn’t until long after I finished college that I discovered this profession suited me and that I could excel at it.

Since then, 7 years have passed, and I’ve spent most of that time at Walter Code, where I’ve experienced immense career growth as a developer in programming.

How would you describe the culture and work environment at Walter Code?

I especially like the work environment at Walter Code because there’s a strong sense of respect among colleagues. We are all treated equally, and the culture fosters a relaxed and positive atmosphere for our growth. While the quality of work is always the top priority, there’s plenty of room for socializing and unwinding.

What have been some of the most rewarding aspects of your career and your experience at Walter Code over the past years?

One of the most rewarding aspects has been earning profound respect and trust from clients. This was achieved through collaboration with my team, ensuring we delivered results that exceeded expectations.

How do you maintain a positive and constructive attitude when faced with tight deadlines and high-pressure situations?

Fortunately, my current project doesn’t have many high-pressure scenarios. However, when they do occur, I treat them as challenges and opportunities to prove myself and my developer experience.

Give us a breakdown of your daily tasks as a Lead Software Developer, and tell us what tools you use daily.

As a Lead Software Developer, much of my role involves supporting team members, communicating effectively, and reviewing pull requests. However, like any other developer, I spend most of my day working on project tasks and writing code.

In what technologies are you currently proficient, and how do you stay informed about new developments in your field?

I fell in love with JavaScript a long time ago and it is my weapon of choice, whether it is frontend or backend.

As for how I stay informed, I like to read. I mostly rely on blogs, but I also like to read a book now and then, especially if I am researching a new area of the programming world.

How do you like to spend your free time and what are some of your hobbies and interests?

I like to spend my free time with my wife the most. We like to go for long walks, and it is the best way for me to relax.

As for hobbies, I have many. My main hobby is video games, I like to collect and play them.

Apart from that, I like photography, and I am also in RCs, I own a drone and a couple of RC cars that I like to modify and drive.

What would you recommend to people who think it is too late to choose their life’s career path?

I believe the thought of changing careers in later years is very frightening.

When we talk about a career in IT, the competition is mostly made up of younger people, so it may seem impossible to succeed, but if the will is there, I think it can be achieved.

We at Walter Code have many examples where colleagues have changed careers, tried something else, and succeeded.

That is why whoever feels the need to change, do not give up, do your best, and you will succeed!

Goran’s story serves as an inspiration for those contemplating career shifts, emphasizing that with determination and effort, success is attainable regardless of age or initial background. His advice to not give up and strive for the best resonates, showcasing the spirit of resilience and adaptation crucial in today’s dynamic professional landscape.
